Xaviera 's documentary won film festival award
After years of hard work, editing, and re-editing , adding new music
scores and slaving away to make this documentary a success, my
director Robert Dunlap, producer John Patti and I myself are proud to
say that our film: "Xaviera Hollander, the Happy Hooker, portrait of a sexual
revolutionary" finally did win THE AWARD AS BEST FEATURE DOCUMENTARY
AT THE PHILADELPHIA INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL on June 29,2008.
My husband Philip and I were there for a week. We also want
to thank the great team work of all the men who made this
possible like Steven Greenbaum , Benjamin Barnett and all the
wonderful people at the festival. They treated us like
royalty, we were staying at the elegant LOEWS hotel and my producer
John Patti was there with us almost every moment of this exciting week.
We have been invited to two more "red carpet Film Festivals",
the prestigious Dancers with films in Los Angeles and the
West Hollywood Intern film fest in West HOLLYWOOD starting
July 25 and ending August 2 and in Amsterdam Jack Weil
has asked me to submit my documentary to the Jewish Film Festival.
No doubt you will hear more from me by that time. So far, here
are the various quotes from websites that can be seen revealing stories
about me and or the film festivals. Amazing how I suddenly seem
to be right back in the limelight.
Philadelphia Inquirer, June 26, 2008 - Re: Philadelphia Independent Film Festival
Another documentary is expected to be one of the festival's biggest draws: a fascinating, stimulating and somewhat randy one at that.
Xaviera Hollander, the Happy Hooker: Portrait of a Sexual Revolutionary, by Robert Dunlap, is a fast-paced biography about Hollander, the former call girl and madam who in 1971 published the infamous, best-selling memoir The Happy Hooker: My Own Story.
Dunlap, who has worked on the 68-minute film for more than six years, amassing almost 400 minutes of footage, said Hollander was one of our era's most significant sexual icons.
He said he found it fascinating that her book, which has sold 20 million copies to date, is still being picked up today.
"Young people tell me they find it in their grandparents' house," he said. Dunlap, who holds a doctorate in human sexuality, said he believed Hollander was instrumental to the women's liberation movement.
"No other person around at that time displayed this type of sexual freedom and boldness," he said. "And she really was the one who opened up the whole issue of sexuality for a lot of people."
West Hollywood International Film Festival
I am honored to announce that I have been invited to attend the West Hollywood International Film Festival. From July 29th to August 1st this documentary will be shown on in Hollywood. The documentary is produced by John Patrick Patti, and directed by Robert Dunlap: "Xaviera Hollander - the Happy Hooker, Portrait of a Sexual Revolutionary".
Thsi is the second "red carpet treat" Film Festivals, we are invited to for my documentary. The West HOLLYWOOD international film Festival is starting July 25 and ending August 1. More details to follow.
SEXUAL REVOLUTIONARY is a documentary about one of the world's most important sexual icons. The film reveals the woman behind the legend who became the most famous madam of all time. Interviews with Larry King and commentary from America's foremost sexologists explore Xaviera's rise and fall as a madam, her deportation from the United States and her political significance to the feminist movement.
