A unique one- man dramatisation of the poignant, hilarious, classic stories from the creator of the beloved Fiddler on the Roof. For the festive season, life affirming and timeless, this superb presentation is abundant in the wisdom and humour of the shtetl.

In his celebrated telling of these funny, touching, forever optimistic tales of yesterday, Saul entices us back to what one critic referred to as a ‘lost world of poverty, foolishness, misfortune, and the love of life’. Award winning British actor Saul Reichlin’s first show, Now You’re Talking! totally sold out its London UK Premiere, and has since toured 35 cities in 7 countries, including Off Broadway.
We are sure no-one will want to miss this most special entertainment, one which resonates so strongly within the Jewish community. Saul tells us that one Rabbi actually brought 25 of his congregation to a performance of his first show, said he had not laughed so much in 25 years, and insisted on being photographed with Saul on stage afterwards!

Poignant Humorous Touching

"inspirational... a brilliant and flawless performance... The most exciting Jewish storytelling in the world!" Edinburgh Jewish Telegraph

"To watch Saul Reichlin create dozens of different characters in the detailed oration of ten stories is a visual wonder for both children and adults, and a master class in oral storytelling for actors…"
Show Business New York

"Reichlin is a veritable force of nature ... loving, entertaining ... it is most infectious."
Chris Jones Chicago Tribune june 2004

"Electrifying ... a fabulous talent... world class show... take your entire family..."
Tom Williams

"Reichlin brings Aleichem to blessed life... rich with Yiddish survivor humor and magic realism."
Lawrence Bommer Chicago Reader

STRIPPED

Amsterdam: November 21, 22, 23 & 24 Voorburg: November 25

hannah in front of mirror stripped showEver wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the dark, deceiving world of the Strip Club? STRIPPED reveals all in this wickedly funny, achingly honest and beautifully shrewd one woman show. Based on shockingly real characters and exploits from Hannah's pole dancing days. (don't tell her Mum!)

This show will make you laugh, cry, cringe and be touched (but that may cost extra!), as boundaries are pushed, rules broken, relationships abused and dignity tested, as the men pursue sex and the women compete for money in this gender struggle for power.

Centred around the impressionable newcomer, Baby; the innocent novice finds herself bombarded with ruthless club rules and surrounded by tough veteran strippers. She is manipulated and used, until she is finally forced to discover the depths of her sexual power and adapt from the exploited to the exploiter.'

XAVIERA HOLLANDER PRESENTS: TALLULAH AND THE BOY

If time travel were possible, Xaviera would reach back to the early part of the last century and bring you Tallulah Bankhead- the Legend. And what a legend she was! Brash, ribald, outrageous, outspoken and an exhibitionist, she was also known for her generosity toward her friends and kindness to animals and children. She was a party favorite for outlandish stunts such as doing cartwheels in a skirt with no underwear or entering a soir?stark naked.

Possessed of a tremendous energy level, very few people could keep up with her. She smoked over one hundred cigarettes per day, drank gin and bourbon like they were water, and carried a suitcase-full of drugs to help her sleep, stay awake and just function in general.

    Languishing

She had a mouth and wasn't afraid to use it! In addition to her wild personality, Tallulah was known for her wit. Often quoted, she liked to have the last word on everything. “The only thing I regret about my past is the length of it. If I had to live my life again I'd make all the same mistakes - only sooner.” Of her own behavior she said, “Nobody can be exactly like me. Sometimes even I have trouble doing it.”

Tallulah In addition to acting, she also performed monologues and songs. While there may never be another Tallulah Bankhead, there are those who come close to emulating her style and toward that end, Xaviera Hollander is proud to present Tallulah Dahling, singing in the tradition of her namesake - in a show you will never forget: Tallulah and the Boy. The tunes they sing will play in your head for days and you are sure to leave with a smile on your face!

About Claire Wilkinson – a.k.a. Tallulah Dahling.

Like the famous actress whom she strongly resembles, Tallulah Bankhead, our Tallulah was convent educated and, like Tallulah Bankhead... she never stopped talking, dressing up or acting in her own private and personal productions. At seventeen, she was enrolled in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama - but found it so boring that one day she just walked out of the school and across to the Mermaid Theatre where she had a chance encounter with Sir Bernard Miles. Before the evening was over, she landed a job with the theatre company- as an understudy, acting in small parts, and as an assistant stage manager. Sir Bernard took this youngest member of the cast under his wing, found her an agent and, when the leading lady fell ill, personally coached her when she took over the larger role.

Soon offers of work and television parts followed, as did an offer of a screen test in Rome, which she turned down. Her namesake Tallulah Bankhead fell in love and sailed to England... but Claire fell in love and gave up the stage. She flew to Rome to pursue her amour, and she found work as a model for the fashion house of Gattinoni. The Italian lover did not work out, but then neither did the unhappy marriage which followed and produced children and an inevitable divorce.

But now anno 2009 she is back, living in Marbella, and has her own inimitable show. And what a cabaret performer Claire is: energetic, vibrant, brilliant, electric- everything one could want in an evening of singing entertainment.

    But there is more:

In yet another encounter of destiny, Claire met Warren Webley in Granada and the Cabaret Evening Event, that you are invited to share with us, Tallulah and The Boy, was born.

And who is Warren Webley…The Boy?
Warren Webley, an accomplished pianist and composer, is Principal of the Stagecoach schools in Fuengirola, Marbella and Gibraltar. He trained at Liverpool College of Performing Arts and gained his diploma in Music Performing Techniques with Honours in 1993. Warren has worked professionally throughout the UK, including the West End, in numerous theatres and studios and toured with 'Brotherhood of Man' amongst others. And so together, Tallulah and The Boy bring you a dazzling and unique show with songs from the 30's, 40's, Sondheim and Kurt Weil…

What the press says about their show:

'An evening with a touch of theatre about it.'
‘A blast from the past', ‘a touch of New York'
'The costumes, hat changes, hairstyles all adding to the glamour and theatricality.'
‘A singing actress with great emotion'
‘Something that's been missing along the coast'

STEPHEN RAPPAPORT in THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART is an honest and courageous look at man's inherent fear of intimacy and commitment. It is at the same time a sober and candid illumination of the contemporary male psyche. It's the story about a man who has lost hope in his search for a mate, but makes one last attempt by creating the fantasy love of his life.

Together they go on a passion filled, action packed date to the Museum of Contemporary Art; here slowly but surely, the fantasy woman overpowers the man who created her and all hell breaks loose. Its' the dreamiest, sexiest, scariest date that never happened.

    XAVIERA HOLLANDER PRESENTS:

    David Natale

    The Westerbork Serenade

A ONE-MAN SHOW WITH A CAST OF THOUSANDS

American actor and playwright, David Natale brings home a seldom-remembered story of the Holocaust in Holland with his award winning oneman show: The Westerbork Serenade. Because of anxiety over increased immigration, in 1939 the Dutch government set up a camp near the town of Westerbork to hold the stream of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. After 1940, the Nazis turned Lager Westerbork into a transitcamp which funneled more than100,000 Jews to their doom in the eastern camps.

Wsterbork Serenade - opening 7 minutes from Izzy Abrahami and Erga Netz on Vimeo.

Westerbork was not a death camp. It was crowded and food scarce, but one could survive there. Westerbork even had a hospital, schools and a shop offering goods previously looted from the Jews. The German speaking Jewish inmates ran the administration of the camp. The SS commandant's pet project was a weekly cabaret show at Westerbork. It featured top Jewish entertainers from Germany and Holland. If one was in the show, one was "exempt" from transport- temporarily. By the end of the war, however, most of the performers from Westerbork were also sent to their deaths in eastern camps, joining the eventual six million who died.

    David_natale-Westerbork1David_natale-Westerbork3David_natale-Westerbork2

Mr. Natale seamlessly portrays more than 15 characters; including German director, Max Ehrlich, actress Camilla Spira, Commandant Gemmeker and the beloved Dutch singing duo, Johnny and Jones. Natale developed The Westerbork Serenade after much research as well as interviews with survivors. In English, he dynamically incorporates period sketches, songs and accounts to make the audience acutely feel what it is to perform for one's life.

    REVIEWS:

Natale conveys with economy and depth a gripping, true life story and the people caught up in it...he is actor enough to carry it alone.
    Misha Berson, Seattle Times

Natale is an extremely versatile performer... With its jaunty song and dance numbers, gleaned from the Westerbork repertoire, Natale's show is particularly unnerving.
Joe Adcock, Seattle Post - Intelligencer

The Westerbork Serenade is not only... a Holocaust story about Jews and Nazis, but a cautionary tale on the destructiveness of prejudice and racism.
Peter A. Klein, JT News, Seattle

    WHAT THE AUDIENCES SAY:

"Great script, written by the performer. Natale has amazing prowess. Very powerful!"

"Tremendous acting and tough material very well done."

"Wij waren behoorlijk erg onder de indruk van deze fantastische voorstelling....Bedankt voor 'n indrukwekkende avond."
